Thumbs up Swingin' Sweetheart!

It must be the change of season -- but J. and I have noticed a very active Sweetheart parakeet lately. She joyfully climbs up to perch on top of her water dispenser (we like to call it her "water tower") to get a better view of the television screen/look out the window at the mature maple tree branches and/or scratch her head on the top bars. We've noticed an increase of her head bobbing -- especially after she jumps off her swing, and makes a successful landing on her food dispenser perch. But it is funny when she jumps off her swing, and it bumps her in her fanny -- she gives the swing a long look and chitters at it, "I am NOT amused!"

Sweetheart seems to be vocalizing more often, as well -- she greets J. with a soft chirp when he comes home, and today she replied to my "kiss sound" with a couple of her own. J. has been trying for Sweetheart to do a "kiss kiss" since the Spring. So, as we well know, patience creates its own reward -- and, also, this darlin' bird will come around on her own terms.

It sounds like SWH is really happy living with you and J, I'm so happy for her and you both as you are the reason this little bird has a new lease on life. It's great she's chirping and happily hopping around and even angry ack ack acking when she boops her own butt.

Keep repeating the same words to her and repeat them often, if you say them with a happy excited tone in your voice she will think she is doing something to deserve that happy chatter and they tend to learn and repeat those happy words. Banana was over a year old when she came here and then close to 2 years old when her cage mate passed away, I started hand taming and playing with her right away and repeating "whatchadoing?" several hundred times a day. I was very happy when I heard her starting to sound out the words and then repeat them to me, the fun part was when I started adding more words to her vocabulary and watch her mess them up when repeating.

She often say's ''whatchadoo doo doo doo dooooooing? Baby?" Then sometimes she just yells, "WHAT?" WHAT"? LOL

Well, the Sweetheart bird really outdid herself last night -- showing off her latest trapeze techniques -- swinging side-to-side quite vigorously, then jumping off like a miniature missile -- flapping her wings, so flying to the other side of her cage with utmost confidence!

*audience applause*
She is certainly enjoying the extra room in her cage.
