Smile Cozy Corner in Green Plush

So today J. came home with a new item for our Sweetheart parakeet -- a piece of green plush fabric to fasten into a corner of her cage to give her a cozy corner to snuggle into. So far she has gingerly pecked at the Cozy Corner -- but once she accepts this green intruder in her cage, it just might be helpful to cut down on draughts and provide a cuddly spot for her to rub against.

The green intruder! I love it.

Let us know if she accepts the evil green interloper in her cage and if you can sneak a picture that would be even more fun!

Definitely, I'll keep everyone up to date with her interaction/rejection of the plush green intruder.

For her special Christmas present,🎁 however, I want to get my hands on a ball of natural (uncolored) hemp jute twine, so I can rework her old hanging toy -- she has chewed it down a couple of times now, and has been hastily repaired, and re-hung by J.'s knotting -- in my earlier teen days I was an avid craft-fan of macrame➰ (I even won art awards for my works) so I think I am able to design something unique for her. From her well-worn hanging toy I plan to re-use the wooden beads, and add some special knots for her to ply her beak on. Wish me luck! *hugs* Sweet Parakeet

And I just found an example of Parakeet Macrame on the Net!

Very nice, I think home made toys are the best. You certainly know what your pet bird/s like so you are the best one to create something you think will be creative interesting and safe for your pet birb.

I haven't known any birds use them myself, but I've found plenty of success with huts of a similar material. Just be very vigilant with the chewing. If it appears that there are any loose threads take it out. Birds can be real sods for chewing and ingesting the threads which can, does and will cause crop impaction. Always something to keep an eye on. Hopefully she enjoys it

I look forward to seeing the home made toy!

Hi! Thanks for responding! I just finished knotting her toy this afternoon, and took a couple of photos from the kitchen table, with my tablet. I knotted in some natural corn husk, and parts of her old hanging toy -- wooden beads, a wooden dowel, and knots of old frayed cord, in off-white for textural contrast.

I will post a picture of Sweetheart's finished craft piece in another posting, under a separate title.

Thank you for taking an interest in all of this! *hugs* Sweet Parakeet

No problem at all!

I can't wait to see it. I honestly wish I was good at making toys. I'm lazy and buy all of mine or just use natural things like branches to chew etc. And while the birds do like them I imagine it's a lot more satisfying to make your own and actually see them playing with them

Since the original post was made, Sweetheart never became enamoured with green Snuggly. She even tried pulling at the knot that held the plush fabric in place, with her beak to bring it down! We eventually removed Snuggly from her cage, much to Sweetheart's satisfaction -- and she reclaimed that cozy corner spot as her own for watching t.v. and playing with 2 of her toys. I must say, Sweetheart is one determined bird, when it comes to her own preferences!
