Introducing toys?

Any tips/ideas/advice on introducing toys to a bird?
Charlie only has one toy in his cage, but it was rusty and he seems to ignore it, then I bought him a shredding toy but he just screamed at it (literally!), I was thinking of just starting him off with a small budgie toy or something and working the way up to something more his size.
He needs something other than my Mum's fingers and his perches to chew, he's not even interested in a blank cylinder of cardboard he can shred...

I just though it would be nice for him to have something to shred and play with.

I wouldn't use smaller toys just because of safety. Show her you playing with them so she knows you have nothing to be scared of. Show her them outside of her cage before you let then anywhere near her cage. Give her treats and praise when she gets near them

Good point, I really didn't think of that!
Yeah, I showed him me playing with it then let the dog have a play with it (Charlie LOVES our dog) but still a no go, I even hung it on the outside at the bottom of his cage, slightly in his eye line but not close enough to scare him, but nothing.

I'm going to try and make something with paper for now

Try a bell or noisy toy,
Bob's nervous of anything new.
Or slot a piece of favourite food in it.
Toos love shredding and making toothpicks.
Good luck
