Sleepy time cage

I have many spare cages, mostly ones I'd only ever use in case of emergency (I have this prehistoric round one! Urgh) or for travel as they're too small to house birds in. However, I did used to keep two budgies in this cage (I turned it on its side and made it long ) and they seemed perfectly happy in it. I completely forgot that I even owned it. When it got real nice/hot/sunny the other day, maybe yesterday? I don't know... terrible memory... YES IT WAS! I put the two conures in it for some nice sun and then I misted them down with the hose (and the aviary tiels). I thought, hey, I'm going to completely blast their huge amazon cage outside and get it nice and clean. So Jack went and did that for me. I took the other cage upstairs and put it next to my window. I then added a couple of toys and the snuggle hut for comfort. Well, they LOVE it in there. It makes me feel a bit weird really. I thought they would LOVE the huge cage full of toys and fun! But nope, they prefer the old cage. So I came to the conclusion I was going to buy a whole lotta new toys to add to the big cage, and every day they can go into it. There will be a fresh bowl of pellets and a fresh bowl of water for them too. Loads of toys, loads of foraging opportunities etc etc. The other cage is going to be their sleepy time cage. Every evening I will put them into the cage at a fairly early time after their day playing, put a plate of their food in it and freshen up the water for if they need more. They can then sleep in this cage until morning. I've found that with the big cage they seem to feel more threatened, and they will often randomly get up in the night, have a quick flutter (not in the same way as a night fright) and find it harder to get back to sleep. They have slept in the small cage for one night and already they seem to be far far happier. They're much more relaxed.

Here's some pictures I took when I first put them in (before I put the rest of the toys in)

Here's what they had for tea last night (it is only a small plate don't worry!)

I love the innocent look. I think it is so funny how we go out buy these enormous cages loads if toys and fun things. Then our birds love something completely different. They are so goofy
