Lory cage

I bought my lory not that long ago. He currently had an aviary/cage outside which is in the outside bird room. It is 4 feet wide, 4 feet deep and 7 feet tall. He loves his aviary and everything but his has some serious separation anxiety when he is outside. I have convinced everybody that we have a nice big space in the house he can fit into and since everybody has fallen in love with him! I currently have Harvey in my room, but Perry is on a cage with a stand and I can take it off. I have a large space in the bedroom ontop of some drawers I can fit his cage on to so I can always have him around me still (I work from home so am often in the living room and bedroom) and so we will be moving there. He is currently in the living room. Darwin lives cage free almost all day long except for times where I have to do and do something and he has to go back into his aviary. He loves being around us. However, even though he is out a LOT of his time, he still needs a large cage. He is a fairly big bird, but that isn't the problem. I have other big cages I could use for him but he really does need a big big cage. He needs so much mental stimulation because he is just so active! He has plenty of toys and everything in his aviary at the moment but I feel that it is in his best interest to be indoors. The lovebirds will be moving into his aviary

This is the cage I plan on getting: http://shop.parrotcare.com/montana-arkansas-13-p.asp

Anybody else think it's a nice cage too? I really like it

It's coming out of whatever money I get for my birthday, never anything on my self sigh

I have a cage very similar to that one. Mine is wider and has a stand on the top. I think they are a great cage. Nice large door and plenty of feed and water containers. I use it for a cockatoo.

As for toys. Lory's are pretty easy going with toys and usually enjoy very simple cheap toys. A swing, even if it is only a lenght of chain hanging from the top of the cage. They can grab onto the chain and do 360's with it. They love spinning. The cardboard centre of a toilet roll is an all time favourite. Really easy to replace when they have destroyed it. Mine will stick their head in one end and yell, using it as a megaphone. They will also put it on their head and run around the cage, running into the sides and if like me they have food and water containers on the floor falling over them as well. The other toy mine like is an empty soda can. They have a great time kicking that around like a football, it's great cause it makes noise.

You might also look at having a happy hut for him. Lory's just love sleeping inside one or a nest box, even if they don't have a mate or want to breed. They love sleeping inside something rather than sleeping on a perch.

Another thing is they usually prefer to climb around the place rather than fly. At least mine do. Hanging from the top of the cage by one toe nail is great fun.

Paying about 350 for it!

Thank you Kate. He loves all the toys he has, he's spoiled rotten in that department haha. The only thing he doesn't have is a hut but thank you for the heads up. I'll definitely get one. He constantly plays on his back and climbs around. He will fly to me if I call him but he can't fly very far. I blame it on his stubby wings! I can't believe how small they are

Thanks! Yeah I know. Sometimes you get a little disappointed with them though when you wait and they turn up bad!
