I use plain news print paper.
I get this from the people who supply the printers with the paper rolls.
They get the short rolls back and then cut and sell these off.
I pay like $15nz for 500 sheets.
I use them on the cage floors, around the base and under the play gyms.
In the Aviaries I am not sure what you could use, if you are looking for a medium that can be cleaned out and replaced. Maybe wood (safe) shavings.
I have used mulch in the Geese pens and for a few of the other big birds. But these would be cleaned out almost daily, due to the pooh.

A tribute to my lost ones. RIP.

I use normal newspaper but I also keep the bottom grill on my cages so they can't get to it to eat it

Newspaper on the bottom of the cages. Make sure it is no more than two weeks old as it can harbor aspergillosis! In my aviaries I use slabs. I used to use gravel but without something underneath it the water was just sinking everything into it when being washed down and of course you can't get in between the cracks. The slabs are easy to wash down and dry up pretty fast, very easy to disinfect too If I lived in a better climate, I'd really like to try sand but I think it would be a pain... not sure, but something to try eventually
