Malibu's new cage

Malibu got a new cage yesterday! It's second hand, but I disinfected it with F10 and hot water, gave it a thorough scrub etc. Now it's not as big as his other cage, but downsizing won't hurt as he lives cage free except for night times and if we have to go out anywhere (I go to work 1 day a week) so he doesn't spend much time in there. He's got one perch and 2 toys outside of the cage for now, and he's got loads on the inside (though you can't exactly tell thanks to the camera) such as a foraging lantern, paper shredders, coloured wicker ball and Java shredding thing and a parcel, coconut and Java shredder. So far he's got 2 natural perches, one with a toy on the end, a pedi ladder going from the cage floor to a perch above, a java perch with sand on it and a concrete perch outside of his cage. My grandfather has gone to the woods to go get me some natural branches that I need ASAP as my cages are too bare for my liking so I'll be adding those to the bottom of the cage to make it a bit more fun on the bottom. Still got to add stuff in, but as he's never really had many toys it's hard not to overwhelm him!

Happy birdy trying out his sleepy cage!

The top opens and there's a platform on the front too, he has these open all the time so he can put himself in whenever he's wanting to go get food or just retreat

Thank you both! He seems pleased but 18 years in the other cage has made him a bit reluctant to leave this one as he doesn't know how haha!

How does fostering like that work Daisy? Do you get to adopt him for keeps after a while if you want to? Will you have to give him up if some one else wants him? Do you have to pay for food toys and vet bills or does the rescue? Just curious.

Birdline use the term fostering as adopting basically but only because he will never belong to me. I had to go through a long process of checks etc and then take insurance out on him. They call the house that fosters before myself the safe house. So it goes safe house to fosterer. He is mine for keeps as long as I pay my yearly membership I pay for everything!

Thanks for explaining, Daisy. That's interesting how that works. Most rescues here will
not allow you to rehome the animal if you adopt it; you have to give it back to the
rescue.

It's hard to type things out on my phone so I try to cram a lot in

I cannot rehome him as the rescue is considered as the owner. He's never truly my bird but if course I won't think any different of him and he will be treated how he deserves he's a great bird!
