Goodbye Gizmo

This afternoon, my best friend for 13.5 years passed away. It had been coming for about a week, but he just didn't want to leave. On Monday, he started refusing medicine. On Tuesday, he started refusing food. Yesterday, he couldn't even keep plain water down. We've known it was coming ever since November, but he was a fighter, so we expected at least a few more months. We dug him a little grave in our backyard, and Lily keeps pacing back and forth over the top of it, not wanting to let anyone touch it. Even in death, she walks all over him.

Thank you Mr. Peepers for the sig!

He was a good dog. He had a tumor that got too big to remove, plus surgery was too risky because he was small, old, and had a heart murmur. Our vet clinic is attached to an animal shelter and we visited with some of the puppies and young adult dogs.

Thank you Mr. Peepers for the sig!

I'm so sorry. I don't know what I can possibly say that will make you feel better. If you need anyone to talk to, I'm here on pm.

I'm so sorry to hear, Kassy, you've known him from your early childhood, that's hard.
I hope time will heal your pain.

Thank you. It hurts, but I know it was the best thing to do for him.

So sorry to hear At least he is no longer suffering, and that's relieving to know. I lost my border collie, Shep, a couple of years ago at 18 years old. I was absolutely crushed. I grew up with him all my life and to have him taken away was like losing a sibling or something. It was awful. My other animals help me through it though and I'm sure yours will too
