Canary dynamics

Canary people will appreciate this....

Whenever I put new food in the food cup it takes the canaries a long time to start eating it. Not because they're wary about food or anything, but because they are selfish little piggies that cannot share

First, Sunday investigates and if fast enough gets a nibble. Almost immediately, Cinder, her dad, comes over and shoos her away. Cinder always gives way to his mate Blaze (at least during the breeding season ) but Sunday can push her mother out of the way. Then Cinder comes back, and on and on.....sheesh.

Today it was a yellow honeydew and there was canary squabble for 15 minutes.

They have such innocent faces

Oh how I know what little piggy's canaries are, but I have to say I don't mind because they eat just about everything you put in front of them which is so amazing. Budgies will hide in a corner of their cage if you put a carrot in their cage and they haven't seen a carrot for 2 weeks. EVIL CARROT the EVIL CARROT IS GOING TO KILL ME!

I had a male canary that would fight 3 budgies away from fresh food that was meant for all of them to eat. He was so funny to watch as he would lunge and smack at the larger budgies to keep them at bay while he stuffed his face! The budgies were actually scared of the little pig so they let him eat all he wanted.

Oh yes, they have.
As a teenager I had canaries, and I' m amazed that they can be like that.
