Unhappy Rest in paradise Hendrix

A couple of weeks back I lost my gorgeous rescue common boa, Hendrix

Hendrix came to us from a lovely guy who had unfortunately become financially unable to look after his snakes. A fella came to sort our wireless out when we moved into the house we were in last and he was happy he found somewhere that had snakes because his brother was urgently looking for a new home for them. Jack surprised me by telling me that I was getting a boa and he was treating me to it. Shocked me a little, especially as it was an adult and Jack didn't want large constrictors at the time. I got in touch with the guy and he took me to his so I could meet Hendrix

It was here I had learnt the sad story behind this beautiful beast. She had been living with him for 8 years but was already an older snake when he got her, so he was unsure of her true age. She had scale rot along her belly, burns all down her back that had become infected and very painful, mouth rot (so was missing some teeth), terrible respiratory issues and a bad attitude (can you blame her!?). He had fixed her up beautifully and I couldn't get over how far she had come. She had been emaciated and sickly before and now she was this gigantic lump

She was about 11ft, which isn't unheard of but is somewhat rare in common boas. She was a real giant. She taught me a lot about keeping large constrictors and she also gave me my first and only bite I've had so far! I would often use her to help people with their fear of snakes because I could predict her well and she would just gently cruise around the room while people were here. She was the favourite of many!

Sadly, when taking on rescues and rehomes you do end up with most of the heartache but every minute with them is worth it

Rest in paradise beautiful

Jack loved her to bits

and friends loved to take selfies with her

She was a great model for me

and other photographers too

She was my big lump and I miss her terribly

I'm so sorry for your loss of Hendrix

I'm glad you got to have her and make a good home for her and judging from her pictures she looked healthy and happy, she was incredibly beautiful despite all the illnesses she had endured.

RIP Hendrix and a big hug to you catalinadee

So sorry for your loss of Hendrix Daisy. She was such a beautiful girl. At least you made her remaining time on earth happy and healthy. She must have been a pretty good age to gain that length.

Thank you both! She was about 20 something I'd of said, they can live to be between 20-30 in some cases (even 40!). She was really truly huge. Not often you see a boa like her

Thank you both

I loved taking her out when it was hot (which is rare here in the UK). She loved cruising around with supervision haha

Thank you very much. I know it happened a little while ago now but I'm still defrosting food for her and going in to change her water etc. without thinking. I'm so used to her being here now and she was a huge part of our little collection. Just to top it off we lost one of our birds in the last week too. This is the problem with having large collections of animals that are rehomes and rescues
