Unhappy The search for Bandit

Hello everybody

I have some sad news that has really turned my world upside down and left me broken hearted

As most of you know, I keep and train birds of prey. I have a Harris' hawk called Chalkie who I have had for about 12 years and an American kestrel called Bandit who has been with me for 4 years. On Wednesday 20th April at 1:30pm I had a phone call from home telling me that Bandit wasn't in his aviary. His feeding hatch was slightly open and he was nowhere to be seen. I rushed home from work in a state and didn't know what I would be coming home to. I cried all the way home and it felt like it was a nightmare. Low and behold, he wasn't there. I panicked and started with the Facebook posts and social media shares. As soon as a few pics were up I ran up the fields. Nothing

Every single day I have had people telling me they think they've seen him and they're 99% sure it's him but it never is. I have even been to see birds that have been hit by cars, none of which are him. I have shared it all over Facebook, including all of my local vets (the ones I used are also aware), the falconry centre I used to work at, falconry businesses, pet stores etc. I contacted the Independent Bird Register, where Bandit's information is kept should he ever be lost, and they have put him on the missing list. The manager/owner there told me that she doesn't think he could have lifted it himself and could have potentially been stolen

Bandit is hand raised, small and has no 'street smarts'. I'm afraid he won't know how to hunt unless instinct kicks in and therefore die. I'm afraid he will approach traffic. I'm afraid he will approach somebody that will hurt him. I'm afraid other animals may hurt him. I'm afraid that if somebody has stolen him he will be hurt, passed around or killed. I'm also fearing that somebody could have released him for fun. I have had him since a chick and he doesn't know life other than me. He builds me nest scrapes and waves food at me

Today I had a low life comment on one of my vets posts saying that he thinks it's good that he's escaped because he is a 'wild' animal. I tried to drill it into him that he isn't a wild animal. This man was talking rubbish anyway. He was all anti-cap but funnily had pics of birds of prey in zoos, animals in aquariums and pictures with chained up elephants! He made it that little bit worse. I have had overwhelming support and kind words from the beginning. In total there's about 3K shares. Feathered Friends and Birdtricks.com shared it themselves too which got me a lot of attention. But still no Bandit. That guy was the first person to kick me while I was down

I will let you all know if anything else comes up. I just miss him so so so much

I'm so sorry Daisy, I know how horrible this is for you and how much you are hurting. Just keep your hopes up I know we all here hope he will be found soon and come home to you.

Don't let people who comment negatively get you down, these people aren't worth your time or energy to be annoyed or upset.

Thinking of you.

Oh Daisy, I can only imagine how you are feeling. I so hope you find Bandit. I have not put a like on your post as I don't feel I can like it.

I know you have shared it on Facebook and would like to add there is a group on there that my cousin is a member of and he is in South Yorkshire. It's called Barney's Country Blog. They are avid bird watchers and are regularly out taking pictures of birds. They may be able to keep a look out for Bandit. They have people from all over the UK but they are based in Yorkshire. Pete Howell is the main person on the blog and my cousin is Don Macdonald. Just a thought that they may be able to help look for him. Something as unusual as Bandit they would really notice as he is a non native.

I really pray that you can find Bandit and bring him home safe and well.

Oh no, Daisy, I don't want to believe what I'm reading.
Your beloved Bandit!
I feel so sorry for you. Don' t give up hope. If he may be stolen, have you been to the police?
I hope so much he will come home to you.

Thank you for all the kind comments about Bandit guys. I just thought I would update you. There has been next to no news. A few weeks ago an American kestrel was found about an hour and a half away from myself and I built my hopes up, which I probably shouldn't have. It wasn't him. I'm still so upset and I'm really starting to think he was stolen out of his aviary through his feeding door. I haven't given up yet, he may make his way back to me eventually if somebody tries to sell him on and register his ring with the IBR. It's been months now. I hate looking at his empty aviary expecting him to be there

OH NO! ::Huge Hugs:: I'm keeping my fingers, toes and tail feathers crossed that Bandit can be found and come home soon. If he's been stolen, I have many unmentionable things I want to do to that person. Growls.

C'mon Bandit.....please come home....

Sighs...Truly sad not knowing how they are being cared for or if they are OK. If they got free might they be able to find home?

Thanks guys!

That's my biggest worry. If somebody had him and was caring for him they should be trying to figure out where he came from surely? And if somebody has him in the wrong hands I can barely even consider it...
