Question What kind of ant is this

Hi, hello. I'm still alive.

I'm almost done with school. One more test and I'm free finally.

But a few minutes ago we found this HUGE ant in the sink and we do have ants since we live next to woods. I mean I guess that's where they come from. But it has a red body and its head was black. I've only ever seen large fire ants, which are pretty common out here.

Here's a closeup of it:

The little ones are completely black and go after everything. This one wasn't all too smart since it kept trying to climb out and kept failing.

Anyway, if anyone has any idea what kind it is, just tell me. Thanks

This looks like a carpenter ant, where there is one there are usually a colony of them somewhere close by eating through a pile of wood.

Check around your home because carpenter ants love to chew apart sections of wood especially in a house when they infest it. If you have a wooden deck or a wooden front verandah on your house or even the wood that is around the window frames this is often a place where they make a home and start chewing away.

Once they get inside the foundation of the house where they hide away and chew and build up their colony they chew through anything wood even beams and wall joists. This can be a huge problem.

These ants generally ignore people and I've never been bitten by one, I lived in an old house that had carpenter ants and in the spring time the things use to come out of no where and for some reason they would often crawl on me when they were wandering around making a trip looking around for another place to set up home.

Oh I know. I learned that from the little house ants.

Guess I gotta bring home a spider

But we did recently rebuild the back porch and it's wooden. Probably where they're coming from. I'll have to check once it quits raining so much.
