Unhappy tough call

a few weeks ago i posted about butch getting sick. a few visits to the vet and a few 100 dollars later, he was improving, but he did loose 1 gram at the last appointment. yesterday he started to go downhill again. he is barley eating, even the millet too. though from this last appointment i was supposed to take him off of everything, saturday i started feeding him the powdered food that you mix with water (i am not sure the name or if it is hand feeding formula). when i talked to the vet before this happened, he wanted to stay away from hand feeding as much as possible so he doesn't become dependent on it, but at this point i don't care and he is getting it any way. today he is really weak. i picked him up to feed him and he is so skinny, i would have to guess 25g or less. he will not/cannot use his right foot (in the beginning it was the left) and uses his wings for balance. he is a rescue and was an adult when i got him so he is at least 4 years old. i am just not sure what else the vet can do for him…i am starting to feel like he is beyond the point of getting better again. for now i will be hand feeding him several times a day…and deciding if i should bring him back to the vet…

I'm sorry to hear about Butch. What was the vets diagnosis? What sorts of tests have they done?

That is horrible. I am so sorry he isn't feeling well. I'd like to hear more just like the previous poster.

the vet didn't know what it was. at first he favored his left foot and in the end he couldn't use his right, or even close it. he was on baytril, benebac powder, Booster coated seed, a powder that would mix with water and feed him, and soothing creme for his butt because he would poop in himself. i am thinking it was something to do with the liver or kidneys. it was nothing contagious, because the vet didn't say i had to keen him in a separate room.

I'm so sorry you had to go through this I haven't gotten to reading your other thread about him yet. So heart breaking! I'm assuming that he had a neurological problem. Perhaps he had a stroke? Again, I'm really sorry. I will read your other thread later
