baby caique

Hello all,
I've just gotten a 10 week old caique, she is weaned and eat veg/fruits and pellets but since I've taken her home she has not drunk any water and she is puffy all the time, should i be worried?

Would really appreciate a response.

Where did you get your new bird? Can you call the owner or the store and ask them what they think?

One time I had a tiny budgie I was hand feeding and needed it to take on a little more water then it was receiving from its food sources. I use to dip a drinking straw into luke warm water with my finger on the end of the straw that held a bit of water. I could put the straw tip against the budgies beak and dribble a little water into the side of the birds beak and he'd drink.

I only did this twice a day because birds don't drink like we humans do. A few drops is all you need.

The other thing to do is wet some lettuce leaves and leave a lot of water on the leaf. Let the bird nibble the leaf and lick the water from the leaf. Make sure the bird knows where his water dish is, maybe peg a little millet on the side of the dish so you know the bird will go to the dish to get the treat and find the water as well.

Good luck. Let us know how it works out!

Thanks for the reply, i've been doing that straw thing and she is drinking some water but is now constantly begging for her formula. We where given formula by the breeder and on the first day fed it to her, I offer instead of the formula pellets that have been soaked in water and veg/fruit for her, but still she will screech in my ear, the amount of times i've gone deaf from her . Is it normal for a baby to be puffy? or is she sick?
