Hello Everyone!
My name is Leigh and I'm a mod over at TalkParrotlets! Thought I'd join over here so I can chat about the rest of my flock as well:
Gretchen, a female Blue-Front Amazon - Gretchen is sixteen and was surrendered to the rescue I volunteer with after her family was unable to care for her any longer. They took great care of her and we still keep in touch. Gretch loves to talk, but only my fiance and I are able to understand most of the words - she sounds like she has marbles in her mouth! Gretchen says "Hello?!" everytime a telephone rings, either in real life or on TV! She lives cage-free on a PVC stand in our living room.
Milo, a male Red-Sided Eclectus - Milo is a ten year old Ekkie who has been through five homes since hatching. He is very, VERY sweet although he prefers women to men. Milo was hatched in Quebec and as a result, speaks only French! He has a very deep voice, and late at night can be heard mumbling, "Comment ca va?" He lives cage-free on a manzanita stand next to Gretchen.
Uncle Leo, sex unknown, 11 year old Nanday Conure - Uncle Leo was rescued by the organization I work for from a cage that had been locked with a padlock - no key was provided. He has significant feather damage and continues to pluck even though he has been with us for a few months now, so he wears a collar made out of a baby sock with the toes cut off. Leo doesn't talk, but boy is he loud! Uncle Leo has his own stand in the living room.
Monkey, a 2 year old Green Naped Lorikeet - Monkey was also surrendered to the rescue but wears a band indicating she was originally purchased at a national pet chain. Monkey loves to talk and play - she says, "MONKEY!!" and has taught it to our Ekkie, "What ARE you doing?" and makes the sound of gurgling water in old pipes whenever she splashes in the water dish. She also plays "Bang!" (where you pretend to "shoot" and they fall backwards, still clinging to your finger) and "dead bird". Monkey is very dramatic, lol.
Casino, a 1 year old blue Pacific Parrotlet - Casino is our only bird that came directly from a breeder. He was very well socialized as a baby and so it didn't take much effort to make him into the fantastic pet he is today. Casino is our best talker, with over 20 words and phrases!
We also have anywhere from 3-10 fosters in our downstairs "bird room" at any given time! Right now we have three GCCs, a Sun Conure, 2 Quakers, a White Capped Pionus, and a special-needs Senegal! I am also selling an untame pair of Spectacled Parrotlets with proceeds going to the rescue and foster birds, so they're in the bird room as well.
