hi there

I've been lurking in the shadows here for a while and I've finally decided to join the party. I've had birds in the past (african grey, white eyed conure) and was birdless for a while but now I have a parrotlet. I'd like to say we're best friends but we're not even close to that point yet. He's far more difficult than the grey and the conure were combined. I'm working on trying to make him realize I'm not so terrible but it's a slow process. Anyway, I know that I would like another conure perhaps in the spring or summer. I'm leaning towards a maroon bellied or green cheek. I do miss my grey though. She is living with my cousin and she's loving it. She didn't take it too well when I got married and my poor husbands allergies couldn't take her dust. I'm glad she's still in the family though. The conure died unexpectedly. He was a sweetie.

So for now it's just my angry little parrotlet Donny. I do love almost all birds though but i know that there are some that i'll just never be able to have so I'll just content myself with admiring everyone else's. I'm hoping to get a lot of good pointers on here. I wish we had forums like this back when I got my first bird.

Hey! Welcome back then hehe
Donny sounds like a bit of a laugh though I have to admit. We all get birds like that haha!

for your conure though. How sad that must have been.

Have fun on here anyway!

These forums are wonderful, I'm sure you'll really enjoy them, especially since you already have some experience with birds!

I really want an African Grey, it's too bad you couldn't keep yours! Sorry about your conure, I also want one of those, heehee.

Daisy's right, we all get birds like Donny sometimes, but you still gotta love 'em!

I hope to see you around the forums!!

Welcome.
I am happy you have decided to join and post.
I am sorry to hear about your conure. I used to have a dusky conure when my sons, who are now grown, were growing up. I adored that bird. He/she was very sweet.
I currently have a green cheek. She enjoys nipping from time to time, but I love her nonetheless. She can also be very sweet. In fact, she can be sweet WHILE she is biting.
I hope you are able to get your conure when you are ready.
It is nice that your grey was able to stay in the family. I'm sure it was hard to rehome the bird, but better than letting your husband suffer. I am glad you can still have certain birds.

Thanks Shivani for the awesome siggy!

to the forum!! Glad you decided to join in posting Parrotlets are like hyper little amazons - moody, argumentative, and sometimes super snuggly They have a LOT of attitude packed in their tiny little bodies. The biggest trick I found in taming them down is having them learn that biting does nothing - it won't make you move away, it won't make you go away, it won't make you react, and it won't get them their way. It sucks, because that usually means taking bites and nips until they realize it but that's what I've found taming parrotlets at the pet shop

jenny, the woman i had gotten my other birds from said the same thing to me. she said "just hold him and let him bite if he wants to, you've been bitten before, and by much bigger beaks." i had to laugh. he does bite but either he's really weak or he's not really trying to make a point because it's barely a pinch. i think he's more scared than aggressive. he's one moody little brat though. i hope that cuddly part happens sometime soon.
