Newbie with green cheek conure

Hi everyone! My name is Laura and I have a pineapple green cheek conure of unknown sex, and age. For all intensive purposes, until the baby is sexed, we will refer to it as he and we named him Jack. From what the previous owner stated he should be approximately 2 yrs old. He is not banded, and was given up due to the owner going into assisted living. He came to me in a small budgie cage, and although his new cage is bigger(I had birds before) I am looking for an upgrade.
Jack has come a long way from being so nippy.. Well with us lol. He loves to cuddle, and take baths, or likes to bite the neighbor. He has a little flighsuit, that is not particularly fond of, but becomes more tolerant of it. He is so much better behaved in it and luckily lashes out at the suit and not us when we put it on. I always tell new people that he hates the bird suit more than you, and has yet to bite strangers while it is on him.
I hope to learn more from all of you to help me and my husband raise this lil baby and keep him healthy and happy!
Thank you
Laura

Ah but you're pineapple is still beautiful! I lucked out, when they said bird I thought budgie or cockatiel, and here they come with a pineapple green cheek. Instead of telling my husband about him, I brought him home and let his natural curiosity take over lol. There was another girl that wanted him, that I had to beat off with a stick. I told her she'd get first dibs if my husband did not want him lol! I have no idea where he came from but I suspect from the local Petland as he already knew how to step up and wasn't trying to make a run for it when you reached in his cage. They didn't seem like the searched the Internet and found a breeder that was hundreds of miles away and either drive there or had him shipped, kind of folks lol

I've always wanted a green cheek ever since working with one at petsmart years ago. I even occasionally looked up the different mutations over the years.. You know window shopping and always liked the pineapples the most. I immediately knew what he had in his cage lol. I thought it was fate that I got him!! Best thing is that he has more red on his chest now than he did 6 months ago!! I don't know if it's because he was young, or the bigger cage or the food. We give him pellets as a base diet(2 types), we add conure food (2 types) that has some seeds altho one is more seed based, we give him fruit, oh and he loves organic 100% fruit juice. We're working on veggies lol.
We have to be careful with what we drink around him, he seems like a lush . If we are drinking something like juice he will shove his little beak in there, while we are drinking at the same time lol. He seems interested in Macallan, which my husband drinks (he doesnt let him, but Jack tries). We will however give him a capful of juice to drink, and he'll sit there holding it with one foot sipping out of it like a cup. The cutest thing!

Or what we eat... I went to Sonic and was enjoying a burger, but lo and behold the unmistakable quick movements of a mouse like scurry on my head dangling for a piece! So I pick some bun off and he contently makes a crumbly mess on my head.. He is only allowed on my head with his flightsuits on .

Hi Laura, very interesting into and thread! Beautiful bird! So sad the woman had to give her baby away but the story has a happy ending to a new beginning! I'm sure you will have many happy moments together.

Thanks guys! Im glad he's here.
Gemini1 I was sad at first too, however I did learn that they kept the chihuahua... I no longer feel sad. Their other dog and now the bird is happy and in new homes! He definitely thinks we're his flock lol!
