Unfortunately I can't be any help with taming. Lol. But welcome to the site! So many helpful people here, I'm sure you'll get some great advice.

If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away.

jayne I'm here to welcome you to forum. Sorry I'm tip less too, but someone will speak up soon! Tell us more about Peggy Sue, like is she young, older or a rescue? Cute name!

Hello,

Peggy-Sue is a rescue parrot, my step dad suprised me last christmas with her! I had never had a parrot before so have been reading books on what to do, however I am struggling with taming her. She is a rescue parrot believed to be 2 years old. She was very afraid of us when she first arrived with us and simply putting her food and water in her cage was a challange, she would bite and sqwark to warn us off. She is much happier now she loves me sitting next to her cage and talking to her and will fly to us to take a treat off our knee for example, but she is absolutely terrified of our hands so I have never touched her She cries for us when we leave the room. I would to be able to touch her. Thank you for any help.

Jayne

My IRN is not a big fan of hands and hes been hand reared, hes always stepped up and likes to sit on my shoulder but its only recent that hes let me stoke him along his back, still working on the head and front but i get the tiniest of nips to remind me to steer clear whenever i try! Its only natural that a rescue bird will be dubious of people so patience will be key. Try coaxing her into stepping up with her favorite treat and take baby steps from there, mine will do almost anything with the offer of a monkey nut.

Thank you,

That is good to know. I was trying to get her to let me stroke her before I got her to step up but I will try step up first now.Peggy does love monkey nuts so I will try to train her to step up with them.

Thank you I hope it works

I recommend clicker/target training. I'm currently doing weekly blog posts starting from scratch with hands off birds so if you fancy reading it here's a link to the first step!

And this short one is also worth a quick read
