Yes, I do have birds. I have a breeding pair of Cockatiels-Aussie and Stella. I'll send pics as soon as I figure out how on this site. I tried the other night, but my id pic was too large and didn't work. I also hand raise all their babies. I have a cobalt Linnie that's a biter(need to talk about this later). The breeder is going to replace her for me as I haven't had any luck taming her since January. I own 2 green budgies-Kazi and Kiwi-too cute and a pair of canaries. Phew! I have lots of stories and experiences to share with you all believe me. I actually grew up in Australia for those of you that come from there and I live in Canada with hubby of 36 years, 2 married sons and a beautiful little granddaughter- 2 hyears old.
Welcome Mir! Its nice to see another grandma in the bunch. I have a 5 yr. old granddaughter. You have quite the flock! I look forward to hearing all about them. I hope you enjoy it here at TP. Its great to have you on board!:biggrin5:
I bought my Linnie-Lea from a breeder on boxing day. He had told me that she was tame and all I would have to do is grab her, because she was not finger trained. I was a little surprised by this, but I hated chasing her around the cage to catch her so I could cuddle her. After a few of these episodes, she started to try to bite me, so I left her alone and have never held her since. He promised to exchange her as I paid good money for a tame bird, but he hasn't shown up since. Now he's saying it will be in November, but I'm not holding my breath. When I hold the baby tiels I notice that she is curious and watches very closely. When I first got her, she was curious about the babies that I had then, so I let her investigate. However, she tried to bite them. I don't know if there is any point in trying to tame her now, or wait for the breeder to exchange her. Any suggestions?
Mir your linnie has to learn to trust you and grabbing her won't do it. I'm sure she can be trained with time and patience. Sing to her, talk softly, whistle anything that will get her used to you being around. Try feeding her some apple or millet but don't touch her or take her out of the cage. She needs to associate you with good things. I assure you that it can be done, we did it with Millie but it took allot of visits and reinforcement that we wouldn't harm her. Good luck.
BTW I wish you wouldn't give up on her, when she comes around you will be thankful that you didn't.
Hi again. I live in Kingston Ontario-close to Ottawa.
As for Lea, my Linnie, I want to keep her, but with all the baby tiels to raise, I don't really have that much time to train her. Does anyone know that if I get 2 young tame Linnies that are bonded and they breed, will they lose their tameness?
Thanks for all your welcomes folks.
