Smile New Member...Retired And Ready For Bird Fun

Hello everyone.

I am looking forward to enjoying birdkeeping again and connecting other bird owners. I know there is always something new to learn. My first retirement bird that I bought a few months ago was not a good experience. I got the budgie from a pet store and he seemed to be sick the very next day with tail bobbing and open mouth breathing. I didn't have the heart to return him back to the store so I took him to the Vet and found out that he had two different kinds of infections which required 2 kinds of meds. He stayed at the Vets for a couple days to get extra oxygen but didn't survive. Fortunately the pet store paid for his Vet services. But I was so disappointed and saddened to lose the sweet little budgie.

I am currently looking elsewhere for a new budgie that will hopefully be a healthy one. So for now I am birdless but will hopefully remedy the situation in short order. But in the meantime I hope the make new friends here and enjoy looking at photos of everyone else's birds till I have my own to share.

Hello Rose! I'm so sorry to hear about your little budgie. They're so small, but they leave such a big hole in our hearts when they leave us. There's another little soul out there waiting for you and I'm sure you'll find each other!

And God said, "...let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." And God saw that it was good.

Thank you for the nice welcome. Yes it was sad to lose my new little budgie but I am anxious to find another one or two or more. I have had budgies in the past and know how fun they are. I love their endless chatter and silly antics!

Rose welcome to the forum. So sorry that you lost your little baby after only a couple days. But you did your best to save it. It knew that you loved it and was trying to help it. My only advice would be maybe to check around in your area to see if maybe you could find a private breeder. Someone who breeds them in their homes. Try the internet or maybe someone here has some suggestions as to a breeder in your area. Again so sorry and welcome. We are glad your here.

Hi,
welcome to the group. How come you prefer budgies compared to all the other parrots out there?

Thank you Ron and Julie. Ain't it great to be retired!!

Ron...I am checking around for a bird fair for this Spring. I would be nice to look for some birds all in one place and be able to talk to the breeders in person.

Julie….I have had other parrots over the years. When my kids were little we started out with budgies. As I got older I did have a Sun Conure for a time but found him to be just too loud for my tastes. And I did have a Lovebird as well and really liked his 'spunk' but he only lived for about 5 years. I got him off of Craigslist so I didn't know how old he was. But I figured getting a budgie or two would be the sensible way to start. I plan to shop for a couple more cages so I will have room to get more birds. All in good time…but not too long…I'm no Spring chicken any more so time is not on my side.

Hi rose
That's sad what happened to your poor budgie. They are a lot of fun. Miss Kauai is the best. She's really the cutest budgie I've seen . I fell in love with her the minute I saw her. I bought miss Kauai from a bird fair almost6 years ago. She makes me smile whenever I see her.

Welcome to the forum. I am sorry about the loss of your budgie. I have a budgie named Cozette and she is the best little bird ever. Not a thing bad anyone could say about her. I fell in love with her when going to pick up food 10 months ago and she has brought me so much joy every day since. I hope you find another special little baby. My heart goes out to you.

Welcome Rose and congrats on your retirement!

So sorry about the loss of your sweet little Budgie, you sure tried hard to save it. They are wonderful birds!

We got one of our Budgies at Petco and the other from a local bird rescue (both girls). Do you have one in your area? It's another place to look if you do. Good luck in your search for a wonderful new friend or two.

Thanks everyone.

MissyBird….there is not a bird rescue around where I live but I have been checking the regional pet shelter which occasionally has budgies and other birds on their website. But not at the moment.
