Smile Newbie

I just wanted to say hi. At present I have parakeets and 3 teils. Tomorrow I am going to meet a couple 5 week old blue fronted amazons and see if maybe one of them might win my heart. They probably both will but one is all I can have.
I am looking forward to reading the posts and learning as much as I can over the next few weeks. If one of them chooses me I will not be able to bring it home for about 7 weeks. I will however visit it during the waiting period and hopefully start a bond with it.
Thanks to all of you that share your wealth of knowledge for us beginning our venture into the world of large parrots.

I am so excited tonight I can hardly sit still. Just like a kid waiting for Santa to arrive.lol

New Baby

I went to meet the babies today. I got to hold and feed both of them. We also went for a walk to meet their mom and dad. They were so beautiful.
It was a hard choice. As I was holding one he gave me kisses and then started purring(or that is what it sounded like) I told him I thought I would like to have him and he nodded. Told him his name was Gismo. He snuggled in and fell asleep in my arms.
He melted me and I told the breeder he was the one. 7 weeks to get ready for the little guy. Can't wait. I will visit him during this time so we can bond some more.

Welcome to the forum and congrats at choosing a new fid, I look forward to photos and congrats at spending time with the bird before you bring him home. This type of bonding by you spending time with him can really help shape a confident loving bird who will adapt easily to your home.

Went to see Gizmo tonight and in just 3 days he has grown so much and really feathered out.
Here is a picture of my little guy. He is 6 weeks and 4 days here. His sibling is 4 days younger and a little sweetie too. Of course I had to hold and play with both of them. The youngest is the one with his head on his food dish watching my every move. He is sad because I put him back in the cage.
Gizmo seems more confident and less needy. He enjoyed the attention but was not upset with being back in his cage. He just posed for pictures instead.
I will not be able to see him for a week. So glad I got pictures tonight. A week is going to seem like forever. I love the little guy so much. The good news though is I can bring him home as soon as I am ready. Have a lot to do yet. Some rearranging to make space for his cage. Ordered his food and toys this morning so I will have everything ready for the big day.

I like his sleepy pouty sibling, Giz is a cutie, I bet you can't wait to get him home and settled in.

Welcome to the forum!

I hope you're prepared for the Amazon life, those guys can be really cantankerous around sexual maturity and at least once a year during breeding season. The males can be little devils I loved my OWA but boy can they test you
