Hello and welcome to the forum! Your lorikeet is gorgeous, have you found him messy yet ? They trash their cages every day and ALWAYS seem to be in the bath! Is he talking yet? All of my guys picked up quite well so I don't think you'll have a hard time teaching him Loved seeing your budgies too, my budgie flock really appreciate having a good misting from the hose during the summer months. All of the birds will hang off the mesh and/or go crazy getting soggy on their toys

I didn't realize how messy they can be until I saw a video of groups of lori's in the Toronto Zoo.

The keepers explained the birds diet makes their poop liquid like and they can shoot it in all sorts of directions. I watched staff doing some serious scrubbing of the walls of the inside aviary's with large scrubbers and mops, they said they had to do it daily to try and make the rooms look clean but the birds were making the keepers jobs very difficult!

I did my lory and lorikeet cages every day and by the end of the day there would be liquid poop everywhere, no water in the bowls due to bathing (and playing with paper by soaking it in there then chucking it about) and food in places you wouldn't believe. They are atrocious. It's funny because if anybody else saw it they would have thought you'd never of cleaned it!!!

All of my guys were different ages but my baby black capped lory started to learn fluently by 6 months. All our feathered kids are unique though!

I'm glad I never got a lory. I'm a clean freak and I'd be frantic at this type of mess daily.

i had to cover around his cage so he would not make a mess on the wall or floor(somehow hes still making a mess on the floor) but their diet is base on nectar so basically they dont drop they just throw their liquid drops he shot my flatmates face once
i must clean his cage everyday sometimes twice a day otherwise its impossible to clean they are messy but they are so cute, you just ignore it
