Lovebird and red rump

Hi Folks,

I' m new to the this website. I previously had budgies and recently lost my rosecrown conure. Hoping to get new tips and tricks to the parrot wold.

I currently purchased a lovebird and a friend of my daughter's needs to re home his Male red rump. I am considering it. Is this wise of me? They will not be in the same cage but same room.

Thank you!

Hi welcome to the forum, lots of people have different breeds of birds living in the same room in different cages. When it comes to free flight time out of the cage I'd allow the birds to be out separately at first until the birds get to know each other.

One bird might fly to the others cage to investigate and see what's going on in the other cage so this is a good time to watch and see how the interaction is going. If you don't see any lunging hissing and freaking out then the birds might just get along together and be able to spend time out together.

I've had canary's budgies and tiels all get along and eat off the same tray together, they flew together and hung out together without issues.

Let us know if you get the other bird and please share pics with us!
