New parrot owner

Hi there!

I am now the proud owner of a Superb Parrot. His name is Rafiki.

I already have 6 budgies who are hand tamed, hand fed and trained.

However, I have never owned a bird larger than a budgie before. I'm here for care advice and training advice. I'm more interested in training Rafiki to comfortably step up on to my hand, than teaching him to talk. We've ordered a play stand for him so he can get plenty of out of cage time. I want to be able to take him to and from his cage where he feels safe and comfortable doing so.

So far I've just put my hand slightly inside the cage and have taken it out when he looks unhappy about it. Letting him settle in as I only got him yesterday.

I look forward to learning from the members.

Hello and welcome to the forum, I've never heard of a superb parrot before so I did a quick google search and see the male is quite bright green & beautiful with yellow & red colors on its face as well.

If you have any photos of your new friend please share them with us, I look forward to hearing how your new friend settles in with you.

Thanks for the welcome. Superb Parrots are also sometimes called barraband parrots.

He's been quite scared since Friday but he seems to be settling a bit now. The budgies chirp away and he squawks back at them.

Here is a photo of Rafiki.

This type of bird makes some cute and interesting sounds, I checked youtube for videos of them talking or chirping.
