Hello. My name is Mary and I am new to Talk Parrots.

I am not only new to this forum but am also new to owning a Parrotlet which became a member of my family at the end of November. He was 8 weeks when I brought him home and since then Kai and I have bonded very well. We are still learning a lot about each other. It’s wonderful to be able to join a group where I can lean and share experiences with. Thank you for having me.

Thank you so much for the welcome. I was not sure if I was in the right forum because Kai is a small parrot (Parrotlet) and so far I have not seen any parrotlets on this forum so I was really thrilled to receive your welcome message. Kai is my first Parrotlet. I have always had canaries but saw this 8 week old little guy (who I thought was a Lovebird) and fell completely in love with him. He was in terrific health and already weaned to pellets. I am happy to say we bonded right from the start and he is doing very well. He enjoys a large assortment of fresh fruits and veggies along with some other foods like white rice, barley, etc. I am still introducing him to new foods. I joined this forum in the hopes of sharing and learning all I can to help keep Kai healthy and happy. Thanks again for welcoming us. Your bird is beautiful.

Hello and welcome to the forum! Congratulations on your little buddy Kai. Parrotlets are so full of sass and personality. There used to be quite a few parrotlet owners on the forum a while back but everybody seems to have vanished over time. I've kept and bred celestial parrotlets myself so any information you need just fire away!

Thank you for the welcome. It’s been awhile since I’ve been on this forum as I found a Parrotlet forum which I frequent often. I do have a question for you though. Kai is a Pacific Blue Parrotlet which is a mutation. There is some conserversy on whether he should be on pellets or not because of his mutation. I’ve read both pros and cons. Since his breeder weaned him to Purina pellets and he was extremely healthy when I brought him home at eight weeks I have kept him on pellets but he now gets a mixture of RoudyBush with some Purina Pellets. He also gets fresh fruits, veggies, and other foods. Three to four times a week he gets a tablespoon of seeds. He is just six months now and thriving so I hesitate to change anything. What is your opinion regarding the pellets?
