Unhappy Newbie to forum

I am new to this forum. I was hoping to find a nice live parrot chat that I could visit now and then and talk to other parrot people.

I have 3 GCC, a WBC and new to me ... an IRP (indian ringneck parakeet). I picked up the IRP last night from what was a so-so home. She's got a vague history of neglect, unknown age but definately 5 previous owners. She was frightened when I moved her to her transport cage and bit me, not breaking my skin but breaking a good chunk off the tip of her beak. Now what to do? I worry she has a mineral deficiency or a metabolic problem to have a beak that would break so easily. She also has lost ALL of her tail feathers though her previous owners say she did not pluck them. She was in a large cage so it's not that they rubbed or broke off.

I don't know what to do. Poor thing. I just wanted to help her out and try to bring her back to health and happiness.

Thanks for listening ...

Welcome to the forum

Indian ringnecks are very frightful birds and you're gunna have to be very patient while she settles in. They don't tolerate people very well. My IRN was awful when she first came but a few months down the line she began to tolerate me. If you want to work with her I would wait a while beforehand. Let her get to know you

http://www.avianweb.com/beakdeformities.html ~ have a read of that and see if it gives you a rough idea as to what it could possibly be, I would however get a vet involved if I were you, to be on the safe side

At this point I think a vet check is a definite good idea. Beaks should not break that easily.
