New to TP

Hi all! My name is Ashley, and besides being a member of TalkParrots now, I'm also a member of ThePerch.net and AvianAvenue.com. I was looking for another forum to join and stumbled upon this one. Hope it's as fun as the others!

My cockatiel, Rally, is a lutino. He was on Craigslist by a breeder who said he was "mean and unmanageable". Guess she doesn't know too much about pecking orders, huh? She was giving him to anyone who wanted him and I'm so glad he wound up with me. Who knows what hands he could of ended up in! He is a big sweetheart now and sings and whistles all day long. He was hatched on 6/22/2009 which is the same day I graduated! Destiny?...

My green-cheeked conure is Nitro. She too was on Craigslist. She was he pet of an 11yr old girl. After 2 years, the girl (who at 13 is beginning her social life) ignored her, leaving Nitro nippy and a little aggressive. Her parents threw her up for adoption and I gladly took her into her new forever home. She is now sweet and loves to chatter. Not sure of her exact hatch date, but when I picked her up on November 1st I was told she was 2yo, so the date 11/1/2007 just stuck.

Both birds live in a divided HQ flight cage and are spoiled beyond reason. The love their ZuPreem FruitBlend Flavor pellets, Nutri-Berries of all flavors, and millet (though Nitro isn't the biggest fan). Rally won't eat fruits or veggies straight, but if I chop them up and mix them with his pellets, he usually never figures it out that he's eating them! The Nutri-Berries he eats has fruits and veggies as well, so he gets his share. He also loves the occasional soy nut. Nitro on the other hand loves to eat raw fruits and veggies. If I'm taking a bite or drink of something she believes she has the right to a bite/sip as well! She doesn't really like soy nuts, but she'll still eat one or two if offered.

Me too - as soon as I have my own place and the space, I plan to foster birds

Welcome to TP!

Your birds sound wonderful! Feel free to share lots of pics!

I too have a conure, and she is wonderful. It was interesting reading that yours doesnt realy like millet, as my girl doesnt seem to neither. She will nibble on it, but it wont make her go crazy. She much prefers seed, nutriberries or birdie bread.

Just wanted to mention something else: be leery of fruit pellets. Kiwi, my conure, came to me eating Zupreem fruit blend and fresh fruit. She had a very rough coat of feathers and smelled very funky. I quickly changed her over to natural pellets and a high veggie diet, and her feathers are beginning to shine again and she doesn't smell as horrible as she used to. I really think the high fruit diet had a huge impact on her health. She is nearly 7, and she too was a rehome.

On a sweet note, I loved hearing how your conure has to have a bite of whatever you're eating... that's my Kiwi too! lol! Especially tostitios lol!

Shandi that's so funny! When I got Nitro she was eating all seeds and converting her to FruitBlend really helped her. I'll watch out for what you said though! Conures are little clowns

Welcome to TP!

It's great to have another conure owner here. I myself have a maroon bellied called Ziggy.

Good on you for taking in those birds, they look so lovely.

See you around.
