Aren't they? Nothing like hookbills at all...my Gemmy is the sweetest, most hand-tame bird I've had! They're just such cuddlebugs.

Aw look at him!! I just love doves. It's funny, somehow both my favorite birds are gray, dunno how that happened....Flash is so cute, too, btw!! He's a kakariki, right? Also, do you notice that your diamonds get a little scruffy looking now and then? It always worries me that maybe Gemmy isn't getting everything he needs to eat, but....I mean I give him his dove blend and grit, etc. Advice is always welcome. Sorry for hijacking your thread LOL!!

Thank you :D

Yeah Flash is a female red-fronted kakariki and is a lutino mutation :) don't tell her this but I love the yellow-fronted kakarikis in their lutino form cause they have this tiny band of red on their faces and they're just so adorable haha! Flash is looking a bit rough at the moment due to nesting though.
and hmmm, no my diamonds never look tatty, they did at one point. Perhaps it is just a moult? I feed my diamond doves on foreign finch food rather than dove food and they seem to enjoy it far more than anything else I've given them. They also have plenty of grit, cuttlefish (which they LOVE) and fresh greens etc daily. They're fine :D

and nooo I like it when people ask questions so don't feel like you're intruding XD

Erm mine aren't tame but they can very easily come around. They're probably the most gentle and easy going of all of my birds. General all around sweethearts, they like to just get on with things and chill out somewhere. I don't really know what else to put about them to be honest. Just very nice birds to have :D

If Erin sees this I'm sure she can give you a better answer as mine aren't tame.

Also I know another girl on here (I can't think of her name but she had a Jenday conure called Vanity) had 2 hand tame diamond doves, I know one passed away but she definitely has one :)

Abby -- I find that Gemmy is really very sweet and surprisingly bold for a softbill. (Daisy I can hardly say that I have more advice to give than you LOL!!) He's....let's see. He is so easygoing it's almost criminal -- he lets me pick him up, move him, always steps up for me, and loves to hoover around on my carpet trying to pick up any stray seeds that the other birds might have left behind, LOL. He's really just this insanely simple bird compared to CC, or even to the parakeets. He does "flock call" a lot though -- he doesn't like when I lie down flat or leave the room and will whistle after me when he's feeling lonely, hungry, thirsty....but his song is really soothing and sweet so it's not big thing. He's not very active and mostly just likes to find a toasty spot (like atop my monitor, which warms his little feet) and stay there. He's really low maintenance, when it comes to entertaining him, LOL.

Edit: Oh and, Gemmy was the only bird I've ever gotten who was hand tame straight from the store. He's ALWAYS stepped up, and he was a pet store bird!

Daisy -- I think finch food is a good idea. I wonder sometimes if the food I'm giving him is a little big? I mean, I worry that he's not getting as much nutrition as he should be because some of the pieces are too large for him to swallow. I think I'll switch....

Oh yeah I just noticed that hehe.

Yeah I use foreign finch food as it has far more of a variety and much smaller seeds that are easier to manage for the doves. My doves love it. I also give them some soft egg food and they go crazy for it
