Hi All, Figured it would be a good idea to start this up. Toys are not always cheep and not always what your bird likes so post pictures of toys you've made for your birds. I hardly ever buy a toy myself, just parts to make toys. I usually make a toy or 2 every week for my guys so i'll try to keep this thread going.

Heres a Cubby i made my conure Skittles

Heres a few Random ones for my flock in general

I also make my own boings which are great. I have many many more to post but this is just a start. So lets see what you've come up with.

Great toys Enna. :biggrin5: I'd love to have some instructions for some of them, especially where you buy the parts.
Well, I'm canadian so i try to buy most of my parts here so i don't deal with borded fee's and such so the sites i've personally used is

Birdyboredombusters.com
Healthybird.net (great for foods aswell)

I might eventually try Parrotdiseperch.com.

I have ordered in some stuff from http://www.motherpluckinbirdtoys.com/ without a problem. Shipping was a little pricey but one box was 50+ pounds and shipping was $60 with a $23 custom/border fee.
I really like the red cubby. What is it made out of?
The Red Tube i got for it was from a pet store. Was around $6 or Cheeper. Then the rest i had lying around here already.

Heres another one with seagrass cord. My guys love it. You can see the big coil of it i have underneath the toy.

Great toys, Enna :biggrin5: You're very creative.
Thanks Sue, Would love to see some other peoples idea's. I'm in need of ideas myself right now. Thanks to some costly vet bill i can't afford to order anything in and have been slightly busy making toys. More to show once my laptop decides to start working.
Does anyone have any ideas for foraging toys? It seems to be the only type of toy my budgie is interested in...
Wow, you have some excellent ideas here! I've made a few simple toys, but nothing to really speak of. I'm going to have to do something like the ball with the rope sticking out you made. :D
Foraging toys are great. i Reccomend trying to find something like this:

You can fill them with millet, paper, paper sticks, popcorn, and anything else you can think of. They have to work a little to get at them.

Not exactly DIY but a great toy. i'll see if i can come up with anything you can make yourself.

Here's a great idea for a foraging toy, that your fids will also get plenty of exercise on :p. I took this original idea from Trish at the linnie forum, then I added a second layer to make it a double-decker play gym :).
I added lots of foraging things such as those chinese finger thingies, straws, straw hats, plastic shapes, then I hung some bead toys and suchlike from the plastic chain. You could also hide some dried foods, carrot and stuff like that in there for them to find, I'm not sure about getting the remains of that stuff out though, lol. Anywayyyyy, I have this hanging on my back porch and my fids LOVE it, so it's a big success at my house. :biggrin5:

Here's another good foraging/destroy toy. :)
I use approx 11-12 inches of bird safe chain, and the medium sized calculator paper. ( you might want to use the smaller size for smaller birds ) Just feed the chain through the paper roll and add your own selection of beeds/shapes on either side, then bring both ends of the chain together, add a quick lock and VOILA!!!!! you have an interesting and useful foraging toy.I use approx 11-12 inches of bird safe chain, and the medium sized calculator paper. What is the first toy on the outside of the cage Enna? Does it have fluffy stuff inside like a cuddle sack?
I don't have any pics to post right now but I get most of my toy making parts from here: http://www.parrotasylum.com/home.html

I love making toys. I make at least one a week, although I'm starting to run out of room to keep them now, lol. I'e got loads of foraging toys in my blog, that I've made for my budgies and 'tiels for whoever was asking. There's 30+ so I can't post them all here. :) My toys pretty much all love seagrass. They love it!

Here's a few of the birds favourites:

And some of their favourite foraging toys:

- This toy was great, Lofty opened one of the pinatas every day when I was at work, lol.
- Foraging tray is the biggest favourite they have, and great for keeping them out of trouble, lol.

- Millet in a finger trap, the worlds easiest to set up foraging toy. :D
