So I've had my first chick in over four years (except Chinese painted quails... we had hundreds of those little things!... but I mean, a chick that isn't a chicken, duck or quail etc )!!

I'm very pleased to say that around dinner time today we had a diamond dove chick hatch! It's so dinky and cute and at the same time just a little bit gross but hey, I'm not too keen on human babies either  I'm super proud of the doves for hatching it and I'm even more proud of the father for his super parenting. He wouldn't even let me look in the nest, I literally had to lift his belly up to find it, and he didn't even fly off!

I hope to have pictures very very soon!

+ other good news (with budgies)... we had Bubbles and another male budgie, but as you know the male budgie escaped. So I bought another male called Bruce from the auction. Those two just seemed to want nothing but the odd chat, they wanted nothing to do with breeding. So I put Cosmo with Bubbles and I thought all was going well, Cosmo was really up for it. Bubbles kept pushing him away though. So eventually Billy (or now Billie haha!) had been put back with Cosmo (we bought them together and everything!) in the aviary and we just put Bubbles and Bruce into a breeding cage together until we can figure out what to do with them. Cosmo and Billie were SO happy to be back with each other, they've been preening like crazy, and woohoo! Billie and Cosmo have been going in and out the nest box! A very unlikely couple as we believe that Billy was a boy, and if you looked at that you would definitely assume Billy was the boy and Cosmo was a girl.. but nope, she's just one huge lady! This made me super happy and I'm glad they've fallen in love hehe! Bruce and Bubbles have not really ever bothered with each other before and didn't seem to care for each others existence but I walked into the bird room they're in in the breeding cage to catch them in the act! Then after I walked in they stopped and were constantly preening each other... it was so sweet. We're attaching a box for them tomorrow, hopefully more chicks will be on the way!
