How do you bond with your parrots?

What do you do to bond and spend time with your parrots? Do you have special games that you play, or special ways of hanging out together?

One thing Harpo and I have always done is sit on the couch before bed and watch TV. Harpo laughs with the TV and makes funny noises, and eventually dozes off on my chest or neck. After a short while, I return him to the cage, and that's our nightly routine! :)

We also play together often. I'll get on the ground and he and I will play with parrot toys, or whatever is around us (as long as it's safe!). He is such a fun bird!

I let my budgies out for exercise and play time as soon as I get home from work. They start chirping as soon as I come in because they know it's time for fun. For the past month or so, I've been hand feeding them treats (pellets, carrots, sprouts, scrambled eggs) and that has really deepened our bonds. One of my breeding hens, Eli, was never very friendly...in fact, she was mean and a biter....but over the past couple of months, she has really turned around and has greatly benefited from the bonding time. She eats her favorite treats from my fingers and rarely bites now. I didn't think she would ever get tame or friendly, but she really does like me and trust me now. She still doesn't want anyone else to handle her, but she and I have a good understanding.
My linnie is easy to bond with because her personality is such that she wants to be on me 24/7 if I would let her. She sits with me for awhile in the morning when I drink my coffee. More time when I am on the computer and spends time on me when I read in the afternoon or early evening.

The budgies are more of a problem in this area. I can't say that they really have bonded with me. I talk to them every morning when I uncover them and at night when they get covered. Their cage is left open all the time if am home so they are free to come and go as they please. Spice will sometimes land on my head, Sugar never. They get misted at least once a week and cage cleaned as well with me talking to them all the time. They are talked to when they get food in the morning and seed in the evening. But in spite of all this yacking I am doing they really only love each other.
I know they are happy to see me as they will chirp when I enter the room so I guess in a way we have bonded.

With my budgies i either just talk or sing to them :)
With the Sun conure, he just loves attention and kisses so it's easier to bond with him. Thanks for removing the troll Nick!
most of the time i let bingo my green cheek conure come to me when he is ready.he is the type of bird that needs to decide when he is ready to play with me.i will give him lots of scratches and kisses.if he lets me:phe loves to fallow me around to see what i am doing.i just recently discovered that he also likes to be wrapped up in a blanket and held to your chest.he usually falls asleep like this.:lovehearts:

I usually have them on my shoulder while I am on the computer or on their ceiling hanging boingy play areas. I also have a little stand in my bedroom so that I can take one in there while I watch tv or fold laundry:)

I also do clicker training with them:)

The conures are velcro buddies and want to hang with us alot, which they do. The cockatiel comes out every time the cage is open and does his thing and I will pick him up and go in the other room and sit with him, other wise he wants to be left to do his own thing. Parrotlet is a shoulder bird and will stomp her feet if you don't go get her! Once on shoulder shes pretty much hands off don't mess with her! The Bourke is not interested! The budgies come out and run around cleaning up the carpet from the bigger bird messes and we pick them up and give them a hard time giving scritches and kisses which they hate so we give them more and laugh and set them down! One little green keet thinks shes a conure and climbs up my pant leg and acts like a conure preening and talking to us. Pisses off the conures, its too funny! Our new Senegal is already bonded with me and my daughter but not my husband, doesn't like men I guess! Cayenne talks and makes kissy noises and hangs out on the couch or the not on fan and generally makes himself at home! They all get treated like family and act like it! We talk to all of them alot. Whew That was a lot to say, we have alot of birds. No one at work wants to hear it, thanks for listening!:p

Maggie our amazon likes to sing with us, he enjoys old gospel songs, alan jackson and three blind mice. He sometimes likes to snuggle with me and he goes for walks with us. He perches on the handle of our stroller and yells at the seagulls.
*Please Note*Maggie cannot fly at all. He was pinioned and will never ever fly! I would never reccomend taking even a bird who's wings are clipped outside unless they are in a cage or flight suit. All it takes is a good gust of wind and it is game over!**

The tiels enjoy their flight time and some love to cuddle and get head scratches.
The lovies like to play chase! Snowflake especially enjoys dive bombing me and playing catch me if you can.

Leroy our GC Conure plays peeka boo with our 4 year old and sometimes perches on me if Ziggi is there.

Ziggi our BC Conure is a velcro bird and believes me to be his territory. If he is on me don't come near! He can and will use all force needed to drive you away! It can get very bloody! He loves to sleep in my shirt while I work on the computer or read.

Hoover our budgie is another snuggle bug but she also like to chatter with me!

We take Millie and Niblet into the kitchen for breakfast and dinner with us. We also take them upstairs to our computer rooms (offices ;)) in the morning to listen and sing to music. We split them up for this and alternate who is with who. They come into the family room in the evening to play on the back of the couch. In the summer, they join us in the sunroom in the afternoon. They always make the decision as to whether or not to come out of their cages and almost always do. Although Millie can fly she knows Niblet can't (wings clipped) so she calls for one of us to go and take her off the cage (step up or onto the shoulder or arm) so Niblet will come too and he does.
They love to do things with us. There's cooking with Nana, usually salad and they love to taste everything, cleaning cages with Nana, washing dishes with Pops (Ted) and anything else they can take part in safely on our shoulders.
All in all we spend about 4 to 5 hours a day with them. We are truly a flock.
:yikes: We need to get a life :yesnod: Not really, we love it! :lovehearts:

I didn't need to bond with my budgie. He bonded with me!

He wasn't handreared or anything, but he was friendly from the start.

We played lots of games to make him think I was fun, and I talked to him lots, just like he was a human!

When he started talking I knew we'd really bonded, and now he talks quietly while his beak is resting on my lips, he loves the vibrations they make when I speak back.
Having so many birds, they can't be all let out at the same time.

The 10 Cockatiels are let out all together, some prefer to be left alone to chill out and do whatever and some of them come to me for scritches and cuddles, it just depends on them and if they feel like it.

Keiko (Quaker) is let out when the Cockatiels go back in. He loves spending time with people so I often watch TV with him and give him lots of scritches and kisses and cuddles!

The 4 Budgies get seperate out time, none of them are really interested in people, so they do whatever they want. I usually let one pair out first for awhile, and then the other pair are let out when the other pair go back in.

My GCC spends lots of time with me, she usually sleeps more then anything cuddled up in my arm, on the back of my neck, under my jacket or in my jacket pocket. I usually have her out while I'm on the computer but she can be asleep one min and then be all hyper and flying around the next, lol.
