I am always looking after animals, mainly birds, that I get from the SPCA to look after.
i am now looking after a baby tui.
Tui's are probably one on NZ's most well known birds, but for those that don't know, they are black birds about the size of a blackbird with a purpleish blue sheen to their feathers.
They can be trained to talk successfully, and can become tame.
My tui has no name, because I am trying not to become to attatched because I am going to have to give it to a native bird place where they will rear him.
I am already quite attatched, so it's hard to let him go, but today I let him meet my budgie through the cage bars, which has made me understand.
Seeing him gaping and trying to cuddle up through the bars to my budgie, I realised that my tui needs other birds to be happy.
it's a case of 'me or the bird' and if you want to work with animals, the animals have to come before yourself.
So, I'll introduce you to my tui, and keep you informed of how he's going.
