I met Chico yesterday, and brought him home today...

Well, it's been an interesting evening here. Chico has already told Levi to "Shut Up". The previous owner told me that he says that particular phrase, but I didn't think he'd connect it so fast. Levi was yelling, as he hadn't had a chance to welcome me home properly, and Chico yelled "Shut Up"....I nearly fell over.
He had a bath....I know I should have waited but his little feet were poop stained, and I couldn't stand it. After his bath, he preened for two full hours and made a bit of a mess, with dust and feathers. When I put him in his cage, after he was done, I laughingly said "Now, Chico, try not to get dust all over your nice clean cage..OK?" He looked at me and said "OK"....This is going to be so much fun...I hope!!!

Here he is. The owner clipped his wings this morning, but left the primaries. I assume this is done correctly...

He's yawning in pic.#4...not yelling!

He had a good day yesterday. He spent all day on his TStand, mostly in the same room with me, and seemed very comfortable. :)

He's losing a LOT of down right now, and I've been vac around him a LOT. I don't really see a lot of dust, but the Floofies are everywhere. I do hope that lessens...

He was silent for most of the day, but when he went back to his cage at bedtime, he chatted up a storm....some of which was just gibberish. I think he must have been told to "shut up" often as he kept saying "shut up" and "OK"....

Ah what a sweet heart. Well he may lose those negative words in time. Does the vacuum bother him? Also have you seen sme of the youtube videos on Einstein the grey? He/she talks alot. There seem to be 2 with this name.

I have seen the Einstein clips. It's really impressive. :)

He doesn't appear to mind the vac...he'll have to get used to it...considering all the "floofies" that are floating around!!! I've been told that it won't last.

Last night he had Salmon, mashed potatoes, and carrot for supper. Tonight he had a Chicken Stir Fry....He seems happy enough!

He has shown absolutely no aggression at all. He's very easy to read, and has only said no twice when I asked him to step up to go back to his cage. I get a glove, just in case...but he always steps up and goes back to his cage when I insist. He's really got a lovely personality!

I am very happy with him, so far....some say that I haven't seen the real Chico yet. I hope it doesn't change. He flew to my shoulder today while I was in the kitchen. Despite being clipped, he still manages short flights. I'm not totally comfortable with that as it means he won't be able to be in the kitchen with me, while I prepare supper.
The floofies don't seem so bad today, or maybe it's because the sun isn't shining, and I can't see them as well. Hoping for a cloudy summer!!!

Having those feathers like that is a safety hazzard!! That leaves those two feathers very "open" to break, or get damaged.

-Now...this is just my opinion....a lot of people say that helps their balance blah blah....but I've seen people have some nasty blood feathers by leaving those two open like that.

Now...on a good note.....

that is a BEAUTIFUL Grey!!!! sooooo coooool that he's already talking to you!!!!

I don't like those exposed flights either....I'm afraid to clip them, as he may then drop like a stone....well, that and I'd have to do it myself, and I don't know if I'm ready for that!:yikes:

It is like clipping your nails. They do not feel any pain. They might not like that you have to do it and use a towel to protect yourself but do use a towel. I have clipped 7 birds this week. It does get easier. And attitudes improved markedly for ours. If you aren't ready to do it your self, is there a shop that will do it for you? Our local shop raise and sells and they charge $6 each to clip wings, beak trims, and nails. Its a great help to us as we don't have a dremel for beaks. She does their nails with the dremel also and they are smooth and clean when done.

I've just made the arrangements with the previous owner to return Chico. I've developed a cough, and tightness in chest for a few days now. I'm very afraid that I may be intolerent of the dander from him...and I'm afraid to wait longer as my two week trial period is up on Tuesday. I'm really disappointed,
but not willing to risk health issues later...

You made the right decision, Sharon, but I know it was a very tough one. Your health must come first.
