Abbey(one of my Budgies) landed too hard a few days ago, and there was a litlle blood spot on her belly area....between the vent and the breastbone. She doesn't usually land hard, and it was unusual. There was a small amount of blood. Now there's something poking through the feathers. I had a look and it could be a scab but it has continued to ooze a little blood periodically. I'm wondering...could this be a tumor that is growing ? Do tumors bleed?

There's no point in suggesting an Avian vet...there are none in this area.

Oh my goodness, that sounds awful.

Could it be the budgie equivalent of a blood blister maybe?

It could be a tumor, but I've never known tumors to bleed....

It's a shame there's no avian vets in your area, but is there any normal vets around, because even if they don't know too much about birds, they may well know what it is.

I hope she gets better soon

Thanks Elzbelz...it does have the colour of a blood blister. I hope it's nothing to worry about... but I am worrying.

Hmm... it could be a blood blister... Keep an eye on it, and if it's oozing, put a little bacitraicin on it, but make sure it's non-steroidal. that will keep her from having any infections. Have you felt along her keel to make sure she didn't hurt/fracture the keel bone? She could've just scraped it. I would keep her isolated, if possible, so no one picks the scab, and keep her low to the ground so she doesn't fall on it again

Does it say anything about steroids in it? Honestly, I'm not 100% on which ointments have it or don't I just know bacitraicin itself is an ointment you can get anywhere non-steroidal  lol

No steriods...but I can't find anything online that says it's safe. It was prescribed for my husband for nasal passages before open heart surgery. I'll have a look in the pharmacy here for the one you suggest.
