I know our favorite slogan over at Talk Budgies is "don't feed the trolls." For those of you who aren't familiar with trolls, like the one who has been posting nonsense posts here recently, they thrive in certain situations:

One situation is a sparsely moderated forum community. Nick and I are working to fix this. We will be hiring several moderators to help patrol the forums and clean up any mess this troll makes. Right now, with no extra staff, she's free to post as much as she wants as long as an admin is not online. This is why there are so many posts. As we hire more staff, there's a greater chance someone will be online to ban her. So hopefully as time goes on, her messes will become smaller.

Another situation trolls love is when people post about them, about their posts, respond to their posts, etc. As Nick mentioned in another announcement, if you notice a troll, report the post(s). Do not post on the forums about the troll, and do not respond to her posts. Once again, as we get more staff hired, there should be less posts by her.

I added our favorite smiley to the smiley list. The "don't feed the trolls" smiley! It's under the "Signs and Text" category in the smilies list.

Some people, I mean really. They get their kicks off of the stupidest things. Thank you for this reminder, though I'm hoping we won't have to keep it in mind anytime soon.

I've always wanted to use that emote. :D

I honestly have never experienced anything quite like that with the speed he moved through the forum. I apologize for posting a thread that someone needs to stop him. I just didn't know what to do but now I do.
One question... why do you say she? Couldn't a troll be a he?:)

Most definitely! But we know who the troller is, and it's a she. That's the only reason we're calling it "she". :p

I am sorry I posted for the troll too, but she was annoying. I am glad you got rid of her, and next time I will ignore her and and only repost the post. That was awful.

Thanks for posting this reminder Dave.:) It is important to not give them attention because that is what they crave. Trolling is not so much fun if one is being ignored and not getting reactions from members.;)

I had no idea what all this 'troll' business was until I read this thread.

And :iagree: make sure you :troll: !!

I hate it when someone replies with something that has nothing to do with anything.

So has the culprit been caught??

yea..they got rid of her. I'm thinking it was a member from another board or sumthing that they knew who it was...

Nothing is more stressful than people trying to ruin your hard work...trust me..i know...

This particular troll I banned from TC on Friday, then she came over here on both Friday and Saturday night. Trolls are looking for a reaction, if they don't get that, then it becomes boring for them - hopefully.

Not all trolls, as I've come to realize. :p

Hmm. Sometimes they just get a kick out of annoying people and don't want to leave.

What I don't understand is why they bother? It's much more fun properly contributing!
