Hey guys, just wondering... does anybody on here have a rose crowned conure? I've seen some for sale from the bird store I usually get my birds from and they're being sold for £130.They're hand tame babies too! They seem really nice. But I was just wondering about personality etc. So if you have one can you please tell me about them please! Or if you don't have one but you know stuff of course

The first two pictures are ones I found around google etc, and the last one is of the birds from the shop

Daisy,
These are pyrrhura conures, so in the same genus as green cheeks. Basically, whatever holds true in general for pyrrhuras will hold true for these guys. I've never seen one in person. They are beautiful birds. They seem to have the maroon tails and bellies of the green cheeks yet with a beautiful red head. I've been told repeatedly that the green cheeks and black caps are the fiestiest of all of the pyrrhuras, with all the others in general a bit less nippy, but I have no idea if that is true or not. I fell in love with a rosifrons conure at the bird store once, and she WAS sweeter than most green cheeks, but I've also handled many sweet, sweet green cheeks and black caps, so perhaps it is an individual thing. At any rate, you would expect the birds to be at least as sweet as green cheeks.

Considering your grandmother, and what we know of her tolerance for bird sounds, one of those birds sounds ideal for your home. :giggle: I am not sure if you wanted something a little larger or not, though. I didn't find any information as to the adult size on these birds, so I'm assuming it is similar to green cheeks, but it could be larger or smaller. What size are the babies now?

To be honest nanay, I have no idea how big they are. But size doesn't really matter! I'd kill for a baby lovie or plet right now but I don't have any more cages haha.

They do look very similar to green cheeks, and as you guys know I love red hair

I just looked up their size and apparently when fully grown they're around 24cm which is about 9.3 inches. So they're pretty small. But I have really fallen for them. Hopefully this is something I'm going to look more into :biggrin5:

Haha that's cool! Mine depends on the cash I have  I often just buy my birds and come back home with them, but I wanna make sure the bird I get isn't too noisey, just because I feel bad for my nan, I can cope with the noise fine ;) but if I have the money, the space and the time I will go by my self a bird. I often get my aviary birds from this auction I go to, they're cheap and the breeders are all trust worthy!

Daisy,
If you are really concerned about the noise level for your nan, pyrrhuras are the way to go if you are going with a conure.

Haha Jess, it's the one thing I CAN do

And that's cool Nanay, I'm going the right way then hehe! My granddad went to the auction last week (I didn't because I was far too tired) and they had an enormous cage with two crimson rosellas and my granddad was going to get them for me but he didn't think I would have wanted them. I went insane. I was like YES! They're such cool birds

I wish he had too! But thankfully I know a lot of places now where I can pick up birds. There's an auction I go to on a monday, an auction on wednesdays and an animal shop thingy near my place (well half an hour away but still!) and I'm going to be going to them soon. I really want a crimson rosella, well a pair to breed. But at the moment I've only got breeding cages for smaller birds. When I get some more money I'm doing up my bird room again and getting rid of all the trash in there so I can have all my breeder cages hehe. At the moment I've just got a fairly small aviary thing in there with a breeding pair of red-fronted kakarikis and then in the other aviary thing I've got my parrotlets in a cage and another red-fronted kakariki in a cage. I really need to sort it all out though, it looks hideous at the moment aha!

But no, I'd never seen these guys before either, and I took a real shine to them. My grandparents are amazing though :p
