I have not previously attempted to post a link into this forum, or any forum, so I am not sure this will work. I am seriously considering purchasing this stacking cage with a play top for two of my small birds, and I would like to know if anyone has any other suggestions that might meet what I am looking for better.

I will post more in a second post, but want to test if this link will work first.

For that price, I wouldn't buy it. The reason being because the dimensions are so small for each cage 24 inches by 20 inches. That's kinda small for spending nearly 400 bucks


Go with a double flight cage that is much bigger and relatively the same price

I am going to purchase a new cage so that I can house each of my small birds, a bourkes, a splendid, and a linnie, in separate cages. Currently, I have two of the birds together and one bird separately, and I rotate who gets to be alone every few weeks.

I originally expected to buy a stacking, double flight cage. I believe it was manufactured by HQ, but I am not certain. However, that cage does not have any horizontal bars and it does not have any outside access feed dishes. I have no difficulty servicing my birds food and water dishes from the inside, and will most certainly add extra dishes even to these cages, but I DO need the cages to have at least some horizontal bars. My splendid loves to climb cage bars, and he is finding it almost impossible to climb the all vertical bars on our current single cage. Therefore, the new cages need to have some horizontal bars.

These cages are a bit smaller than I had hoped to find, but I still think they will be fine for single birds of this size.

I for one do not like stacked cages. The cage on the bottom is not as convient to get to as the other one on top. The top one usually gets more light and for some reason the one on the bottom is a pain, now that is just my opinion. For the money I'd do a lot of checking.

It is true I could get two single cages for this price, but space is an issue which the stacking cages would resolve. I have no fear of putting either of the grasskeets in a bottom cage. They like being down low due to their nature. However, I have never serviced a stacking cage, so I will probably ask the folks at the bird store if I can clean out their lower cages a few times before I make a definite decision. Thank you for that heads up.

The bar spacing on the cages on that second link is listed as 1.22". At first I was wondering, because the sizes were listed in cm and then inches in parenthesis, but the bar spacing is just listed as 1.22 inches. You may have been confused by this because the first link you posted lists the bar spacing in cm, instead.

The cages do have horizontal bars. Which is what I am looking for, but the bar spacing is just too large. That is the issue I am running into with stacking cages. Either the bars are all vertical or the spacing is too wide.

I am going to keep looking while I also see if I can't experiment with cleaning out lower cages. Thank you both for your comments.

Does anyone else here have stacking cages? I know many people list lighting and a bird being unsuitable to dwell on the bottom as an issue, and while I would have to figure out something regarding lighting, I do think my grasskeets are good candidates for bottom cages.

I had never considered the cleaning issue. Are there any others?

You can use a shop light fixture and hang it from the wall (up and down) or from the top cage, just be very careful of exposed wires, I have had birds chew on them. Use what ever bulbs you plan on using. I love shop light fixtures.

I did realize that the spacing was too big in the second link, but i posted it purely for an example. Ive seen ones identical to that version for small birds on other sites.

The lighting with stackable cages can easily be fixed with a lamp, so don't worry too much about that.

Good luck in finding a set of stackable cages. I personally don't like them as the idea of having to bend over to clean and deal with a lower cage is annoying. I like my cages being at waist height and up (though not much higher then my head to avoid dominance issues)

Those flight cages have only vertical bars. I've looked quite a bit and find nothing else with horizontal bars and spacing this narrow. I'm thinking at this point there is not another alternative that has both horizontal bars and small enough bar spacing. Thanks everyone for responding. It is nice to have some more eyes to help with the search.

I don't know how I missed this set of stacking cages in repeated searches. These have 1/2" bar spacing and half of the bars are horizontal. They also have a place above the bottome cage in which to safely mount lighting. They are quite expensive, but I believe the best option in a stacking cage.

Hey Nanay, I vote for the one from Birdscomfort.com. We bought our double flight cage from this site and were pleased with service and there was no damage in shipping. They ship out of Florida or Denver depending where you are and on what they have.
I know what you mean about room to place the cage. We have put ours away only to bring it out and build it up as a single unit, then rebuild it as a double for our 2 tiels and 1 Bourke. They love it. I wish we had as much room as they do! I can't wait to see what you choose. I have a cage shopping addiction. I have 2 empties right now!
Ours doesn't have any horizontal bars and the tiels do ok and the Bourke flits every where!

A lot of time has passed. I had decided not to go with a stacking cage at all, but now that we've purchased Daisy and I've fallen in love with the capes/suahelicus at the bird store I'm rethinking a stacking cage for Stanley (bourkes), to be housed on the bottom because he is a grasskeet and loves running around on the floor anyway, and Elisa (linnie). I'm just thinking. Certainly nothing definite. However, I tried to find the cages I had liked and I think perhaps they are no longer available.

I'm just thinking. I may not get double decker cages at all.

I've noticed some of the cages come apart, so I'm thinking that kind would be easier for cleaning. What does anyone else think? Would it be an important feature for double decker cages to be able to be lifted apart for cleaning?

Well, Brute Squad, I have already read your post about your new additions.

I talked about stacking cages at the store again today, but made no decisions. There seemed to be no way to utilize all the cages I currently have and a stacking cage. What I mean by that is that I would have to sell something I have now to go with a stacking cage, maybe even two of the cages I have now. I won't get much from used cages, even though they are in very good shape.

In the end I didn't redo the order I had for the new cage for Roni in order to eventually end up with some stacking cages and a cage for a cape, sooooooo, well, it doesn't much matter at this point because I have convinced myself to be reasonable and wait to get a cape.

Both Stanley, my bourkes, and Daisy, Cannary's maxi pionus, could live happily in a lower cage. Grasskeets are ground dwellers and Stanley loves the floor, and Daisy is currently housed in a lower cage at the store now with no problems, but I am still planning and coniving, so I just left my order as it is because I want to bring Daisy home as soon as possible. Additinoally, Cannary and I decided we could handle five separate cages if we move her "office" (play area) into the living room as soon as my son gets here and picks up these cats.
