Ok here goes....
Remmy is a green cheek conure and we got him from Petco for half off because he has cataracts, at 4 months old. They had him to the avian vet in town 4 times and he didn't know how it would go with his eyes. We took him to an avian vet with a good reputation and she looked at him and said it will get worse and he could go blind, or he won't because the retinas will fall away from the pupil and he will see around the cataracts. He can see really well. He never flew into a wall or landed on the wrong spot. He always finds my tiny moles and picks at them. He is the alpha male. Born January 10, 2009 he is a yr. plus now. He is an Aquarius too, acts just like the description of one. He is a lover and loves to take a nap with me. I lay on my side and tuck him under my chin, he will make kissy noises and once a fake snore to tease me. I snore. One other time when we woke up he said very clearly,"time to get up!" He has a small vocabulary but knows the right time to say it. He doesn't like Nanna our Pionus and landed on her one day, on purpose! He can get loud and mouthy. He says MeMeMe!
Bella we got next, a now 3 yr. old green cheek. She is a second chance girl. We call her our little street walker. She has that demeanor, real street wise and not too trusting. She bit me three times in 2 days when we first got her and I thought maybe we made a mistake taking her. Naw she loves me now. She hated my husband for several months. He won her over with Cheese Nips! We had to cut back on those, she got a bit chunky:rofl:
She has always hated my daughter who would still give her cheese nips and toast nibbles. Finally last week while we were gone Bella was making a bunch of noise so my daughter let her out then got a towel and caught her and took her to her room for a cuddle. It worked, and now she can even give her head a scratch. So she is slow to trust but its worth it. She is also the only girl gcc we have.
Next we got Oggie a 11 yr. old male greencheek. He and his brother Doggie were attacked by a dog. Doggie died, but Oggie hid and only has a dent in his head and a deformed beak, it has grooves. He is edgy to this day. Remmy and Bella liked him till we got Tuco now they all hate and will attack him. I think its also because Remmy reached maturity and hes head dog. So we have to preen Oggie when he will let us, poor guy. He gets extra attention from us in the early morning and sits with us while we have coffee before we get the others up. Oggie sat at the bird store for 7 years before we found him and were allowed to bring him home. Yes that is how they put it.
We got Tuco, a black cap conure and he is trouble. In the shop he was picked on by the other bcc and was in his own cage tearing up paper and making a mess. I would call him trpouble when I visited. I have a soft spot for the miss fits. We brought him home and named him Tuco, from The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly! He is not ugly but he is like Tuco. He and Remmy have been inseperable. Recently he has been nippy with Remmy if Bella comes around to vist, so he has his own cage again. He ws in Remmy's cage. He is right next to Remmy and I let Remmy into his cage or on top and they play and preen. I have noticed Remmy gets tired of him or bored and flies away so I think it was time. Tuco is just over a year. He has been nippy with me also. And I clipped all 4 conures this week as they were too loud and always flying away when it was time for bed or to be moved or held. Too much freedom and not enough fences. They are all behaving now.
We have a little parrotlet named Sweetpea who is a rehomer also. She is tame and friendly on her terms. Again she had to be clipped. We let her flights grow in, we thought it would be nice if she could fly. She thought it would be cool to not be tame. After I clipped her she hopped into my palm and was her old sweet self again. She peeps loudest at bedtime. Once she got ,mad about something and ran back and forth on the back of the couch stomping her feet so hard I could feel it as I was laying down. That is some stomping! They are tiny little birds! She is about 3 now.
We have Cinnamonour first girl tiel and she is a pearl. She was parent raised. We drove to a little pet shop in Vernonia Oregon, the same town as the logger show. There is a little shop that barely holds on. The whole town is so poor. Anyway we could of ha=d a hand fed but it was not as pretty as her. It was not too hard to tame her. A sweet girl. She will sit on my shoulder. I discovered she is a water bird. Every morning I have to spray her down, soaking wet. She loves water. Tonight I gave her a shower, again soaked. She is a yr. now.
We got Charlie the boy tiel at Petco. He is a whit facepied and a lovely boy. He is not a yr yey. He is not very tame. These two were clipped last week also. Cinnamon went untame on me. The clip briought her right back. Charlie had his flights, no more. He will step up on a stick if he gets too far from the cage and needs a ride home. We are making slow progress with him. He sings well. I put them both in the dpuble flight cage, but have put the divder in to help wityh taming. He is not bonded to Cinnamon although they spent the whole day on top eating and napping. Theyu don't preen each other at all.
We have a female Normal Bourke parakeet we named Rosey. We got her from a store of ill repute. They had her in a cage too small for a finch. I had to wait all month till I got paid, she was still there. I don't clip her wings because she knows how to follow directions and my husband directs her home the way the guy on the runway directs planes! She does not step up. She did for me 2 times and I held and petted her with her obvious permission. Thats the only time. She lives with Cinnamon who adopted her as his flock. They don't preen though. She is our nurse bird. When Charlie got across the room today she sat with him and kept flying to the cage and back to him trying to show the way. Once I moved Hopalongs cage while he was out and about and Rosey went and sat in his cage and chirped till he found it again. Rosey Nightingale!
We have 6 budgies. @ hand feds not hand raised, just fed. They are tame though and will let you tickle their tummies and sit on your shoulder. Frenchfry has to live alone as she is so dang mean to the others. Happymeal is a boy and in love with Wanda the bent wing albino. Happymeal says"Remmybird!" A lot! Cosmo our other bent wing girl is with Friend who my daughter brought home for Hopalong. It didn't work out so he hooked up with Cosmina. She is a plump little girl. Her toes a re nibbled short from the nest. She had to go on a diet of no more millet and veggies and a few pellets for breakfast. In two days I see a big difference. Both the bent wing girls were Petco stuck in the back birds. I adopted them.
LAst but not least of the bugs is Hopalong another Petco boy. He broke his leg in the grate of the cage. They took him in and the vet amputated the leg at the hip. He made it and they gave him to me. He is awesome. He lives alone as the other bugs want to peck at him if they room with him. So he has his own cage and I have not tried to tame him at all. He is super smarty and gets let out and flies like a Blue Angel. So fast and sharp turns, wow! He always goes in when he is done. We never have to towel him or chase him. He is very afraid of hands. He loves his toy and his mirror. He sings the best also.
We have 2 male zebra finches that are fun to watch and they also pipe in with neetneetneet at the right moments. We got them their own nest and food dishes so they don't pick on each other any more.
This is Nanay's doing, she asked so here it is.
OOps I forgot Nanna but she has her own thread!
