I am so excited. I was lucky to find Meeps at the local bird store, and I just found a male who is equally sweet. Even better is that I have been trying to find a new home for my Pionus (hubby does not like her), and the lady who has the male Splendid wants one, so we are trading. I am so happy. This will be the perfect home for my Sam, and I am thrilled to be getting a future mate for Meeps. Will share pics and stuff after we meet up later this week. The Splendid's name is Rhett.

Aw, that's great, congratulations! so glad it all worked out for you. Can't wait to see photos of Rhett.

That works perfectly, Jen! I'm glad you were able to find Sam a great home and Meeps a new mate! Now... will Rhett hold up to his namesake and sweet little Meeps off her feet?

This is wonderful news. I am happy for all four of you. (I guess Meeps would make 5.) How old is Rhett?

lol yes I am sure she will like Rhett. He was hatched in 2007, so he is about 2.5 yrs old most likely, maybe almost 3. The lady had gotten him to breed but could not find a female for him. I still don't know exactly how old Meeps is (the lady at the bird store that knows has not been in when I have swung by). I won't set them up till late summer at the earliest. But till then they can be buddies.

Well it has been a while, but I am back! Meeps was pretty bossy with Rhett for Months. She is a highly opinionated little bird. Soo playful still, and loves to try new foods, and play with toys. Rhett thinks she is pretty but doesn't usually take interest in the things she does. He would rather sing about it and try to impress her.

Finally this week things are looking promising for them being bonded enough to breed. I bought them a nest box, and will install it in a week or two. Going to up the foods and such for a bit first.

I am so glad I found Splendid Parakeets. They are the most perfect little birds. So gentle and beautiful, and lively! I am working on getting a flight cage yet, but maybe this winter sometime.
