I've solved the biting issue with Ziggy, well I thought I had.

She's fine with me, and lets me do basically anything with her without biting, but whenever I have a guest around, she will start wining until I take her out of the cage, and then she will slowly walk up their shoulder, and nip them either on the finger and they try to get her down or on the nose.

I know that parrots are usually only nice to their family, but is their any way I could get Ziggy to be nice to strangers.

I always introduce them to her slowly, and I talk to them to show her that their nice, but she just doesn't like them.

It's not really a good look when I have people going home from my house with red noses :giggle:

I could leave her in the cage but I really want people to meet her, but unfortunately not everyone likes her because all they see is a big beak heading for their nose!

Help please?!

I'm sorry. I have no advice. Roni, my senegal, is awful with others, too, but, heck, she still nips me. She never nipped even that first time until she was ten months old. I would be afraid to try to socialize her by letting others hold her, because I don't want anyone else to be bitten. She absolutely loves to give my son's girlfriend a sweet come hither look, and then give her a nip as soon as possible. The reason I wouldn't want to try to socialize her with others is that I would feel so badly if she nipped them. I suppose I could let "bird" friends try, because they would understand the risks, but no one else. I hate to have ANY of my animals hurt someone else, so this is very bothersome to me. So far, my three little birds are sweet and have never offered to bite anyone. So all I can offer you is understanding.

Thanks. unfortunatley, none of my friends really are 'bird lovers', so I guess I'll just keep her to myself.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one out there with this problem! :yesnod:

Oh, Goober hates anyone but me  She'll tolerate them and step up if they do it right (show no fear!) but if she can boss them around, she will. She won't bite to draw blood and 99% of the time she just acts as though she will bite but it's enough to put off everyone from trying... I try and socialize her but no one will help me! It's really common for birds to develop these problems and for the exact reasons Nanay and I have - no one wants to get bitten so no one wants to try, and bird owners feel responsible when things go wrong and if a bigger bird bites someone they can really hurt :frown:

Goober bit my boyfriend's lip last night when he tried to boss her around - they were making good progress until then! Problem was he decided to stop rather than follow through and she won that battle in her eyes
