I have a heat lamp ( a really low voltage one) that i put on after my conures bath.. She tends to shiver and i guess is to lazy to preen hersellf so she sits there all cold :lol:so i plug in a heat lamp for her to dry off... and my furnace has its bad days to where it doesnt want to put in the energy to heat the house .. so i keep the lamp on for that too

 

haha Sheldon just sits and gets cold too after his baths :L i normally put a cover over him to keep him a bit warmer, i think i might get a heat lamp as well, as my heating is broken at the moment D: not fun lol

 

Hello Suzanne. I use the Reptile infrared lights for my birds heat and it doubles as a night light as well. From what I have read the red light doesn't disturb the birds sleeping pattern like the white lights do. And another nice feature with these lights is the dimmer switch. I can adjust the heat and light level as needed. This is what works best for my Finches and one little Budgie.

 

my two conures are inside and they're just fine how they are but I have a lot of birds outside. They're actually really hardy (most are - depending on the species) but I've moved everybody into my indoor bird room, though that is because I'm knocking down my old aviary for my new one for the red tailed hawk haha. They're usually okay though, even if they're outside in tis weather. As long as they have shelter. If your birds are inside I'm sure they'll be fine. ^^

 

I have a heat panel hanging on each of my birds' cages. They are wonderful! Soft, gentle, even warmth. Birds can snuggle up to it, or move away from it. And when I cover their cages at night ,the heat panel warms the whole cage. They are a little pricey, but well worth it in my opinion. My birds LOVE them!

I used to cover Scully's cage with an old bed sheet. If you have one, put it on in time you think it might be to cold for them!

 

I put fleece blankets over my bird's cages at night. Zazzy's cage is right be the window so I pull it away a little bit at night when I cover her for bed. I don't want the cold from the window pane to give her chills.

 

I've installed a tube heater in my bird room and its gotten much nicer in there!

 

Does anyone know if I can tell if there is teflon inside a ceramic heater? I need to get a new heater for the room where I keep my dogs in the winter while we are away from home. It is totally away from the bird room, but, still, I don't want to get something with teflon inside it.

At the moment i cover his cage wih two fleecy blankets and i got him a new little tent thing which he goe in *YAY* so im hoping that should keep him a bit warmer. We ar getting our heating fixed within a week or so, so then he shouldnt be too cold . Thanks for all you suggestions

 

I used to put the hair dryer on low and dry my 'Too with it after her bath.
she loved it!

 

I think hair dryers aren't safe! But I'm not too sure I was always too scared to use them. Did she like it then?

Also if she'd had enough she"d move away.

I have one of those dish-shaped heat lamps in my room, where I keep my birds. It's really warm, and the grate surrounding the element makes sure that a bird won't fly into it and get hurt by accident. I usually turn it on in the morning, and in the evening, to warm up the room. As you can imagine, it gets pretty cold up here in Canada, so this lamp is a real blessing (especially with parents who keep the house heat super low to save money)

 

I use a heavy fleece blanket for the fall & winter and a normal fleece one for spring and summer I have a cozy hut but don't think it's safe to use....... I'm thinking of getting a heated perch but none of the petstores around me sell those

 

My conures LOVE their cozy hut. They only have a small but being as they're ALWAYS going in it and squishing right in I bought a large for them :lol: I think they're safe, I've never had a problem with them.

 

Zucchini has a tent and one of the fleece swings/ wreaths. Zucchini loves his tent! If he gets cold, he gets in the hut and chitters happily to himself. I also find that there is a slight draft on one side of the cage, so I cover that side at night. I have been thinking about getting a heat lamp as well. We have an older, drafty house so I worry about my little guy.

 

When Zazzy the Quaker came to live with us she was already used to her sleep tent. I've never used it for my other birds buy Zazzy has to have it at night or she won't go to sleep. It's really cute when she snuggles in it to go to sleep.

I bought her a newer one in the exact color since her old one had some poopies encrusted on it. I threw it in the washer with some towels and added white vinegar and detergent to the load. Almost all the poop came off and it didn't ruin the tent. I'm excited as I can now launder them regularly and keep them cleaner for her.

 

I love white vinegar, its all I clean with!

I'm the same way Kate. I love me some white vinegar. Household cleaners give me headaches with their strong smells so that's one reason I really use so much white vinegar.

I also use it for my guinea pig laundry. They have fleece blankets with towels underneath as their bedding. The w/v gets out all the urine and piggy smells so great.
